Helping Pocklington be a more Active Town

Pop-up Fitness Session Report

We were in Pocklington at the weekend, engaging with the local community at West Green’s outdoor gym.

Part of Move the Masses’ mission is to empower people to make use of their local opens spaces as places to exercise.

West Green is Pocklington’s only significant green space and whilst it’s frequented by dog walkers and families enjoying the skate park, many local residents we spoke with didn’t even know there was an outdoor gym in the area until they saw our posters!

Guided by our qualified instructors, participants were taken through each piece of equipment and given advice and coaching points on how to get the most from it.

It was a mixture of fitness enthusiasts and total exercise newbies, so our instructors adapted the workouts to ensure everyone was catered for. Some participants had never used this type of outdoor exercise equipment before and were surprised how much of a workout they could get!

We even had some keen runners turn up to get some advice on how to use the equipment for a running-specific strength and conditioning workout.

It’s been really useful to see the range of exercises you can do, especially partner exercises which I would never have known about.”

I’ve never used an outdoor gym because I wouldn’t know where to start! Now I think we’ll come back and try to work towards managing some of the harder exercises.”

We’ll be producing a video guide to the site which will include workout suggestions, sign up for our newsletter or keey an eye on our social media to see when it’s published.
